Coimbra, Portugal is great University town south of Porto, Portugal. It is an easy day trip, that you can get to by train, with plenty to see and do around the city center just be sure to bring your walking shoes because this place has some steep hills & steps that will increase your heart rate!
We happened to be there right at the start of the Onion festival so there was traditional folk music and food stalls that were delicious and cheap.
