Quito, Ecuador at a Glance

First stop, Quito, Ecuador. At a glance, Quito is surrounded by mountains, hills and Volcanoes. Flying into Quito I was amazed at how green everything is. The landscape is just stunning and we were excited to get exploring this city.

The airport was pretty intense but after finally checking our bags and finding an ATM along with a SIM card ($25 seems standard for a 30 day 5gb package) we took a taxi through the EasyTaxi app, much easier to use than Uber although from the airport into the city the standard fair is $25. You can also catch a standard Yellow Taxi with an orange license plate but be prepared to pay cash, US dollars to be exact.

We spent Friday wandering around and taking photos of everything. We did explore the historic part of town for a good part of the day, visiting the Central Bank of Ecuador, a small museum with one older coins and bills. We also stopped by a couple churches and of course had lunch which consisted of Arepas & Empanadas.

I was feeling the Jet lag though; 6 hours time difference and it’s always more difficult for me going back in time than going forward. The jet lag mixed with the higher altitude, made me a verrrry sleepy girl so I didn’t push myself because it really is no joke here.

Anyway our journey has just started here in Ecuador and South America but I can already tell the photos will be plentiful and the experiences rich!
